PUSHPA RESIDENCE
Our brief was to harness the innovative spirit of a previous design and adapt it to this newly acquired urban site. In a bustling city, open green space is a rare luxury—far more precious than built structures. With this in mind, we made the garden the heart of the home, designing the house to celebrate and integrate with it seamlessly.
As you step into the foyer, your gaze flows uninterrupted through the living room and conservatory, extending all the way to the lush, landscaped garden beyond. This verdant expanse occupies a full third of the site and is visible from every corner of the house, creating a constant connection to nature.
The ground floor features a continuous, monolithic white marble floor that enhances the open-plan layout. Rather than relying on walls to define spaces, we used varying volumes—each room’s height tailored to its function. Interwoven throughout are intimate internal courtyards, filled with native plants allowed to grow wild and free, infusing the home with a vibrant tropical ambiance.
The double-height conservatory faces east, inviting the morning sun to flood in, illuminating the white marble floors, warming the tall wooden-clad columns, and highlighting the lime-plastered walls. Throughout the day, natural light permeates the house via strategically placed sunroofs and the internal courtyards. Eliminating barriers between indoors and out, massive 18-foot sliding folding doors open fully, transforming the space into an ideal urban retreat—perfect for relaxed gatherings or simply enjoying the outdoors.
The eastern façade, defined by its clay block columns and exposed concrete walls, connects directly to the family kitchen, providing easy access to the garden for al fresco dining and garden parties. Enclosed on all sides like a private courtyard, the garden boasts a manicured green lawn bordered by exotic ficus and sacred temple trees. At the clients’ request, it includes a charming pine-wood pergola, with one column gracefully positioned in a lily pond. Flowering climbers cascade up its supports, while a melodic xylophone awaits playful moments on a nearby table.
